Late in 2016 I photographed the wedding of Victoria and Simon at Hampton Court Palace.
This one was slightly different to the usual weddings at Hampton Court, as the ceremony was very late in the day, in November, and there was no natural light for any of the photography that took place after the ceremony. Our walk around was only lit by the ambient lighting around the palace and the reportage shots lit by the beautiful lighting set up in each of the Palace rooms.
As the ceremony was taking place in the Chapel Royal I wasn’t allowed to take photos of the actual ceremony so my work came before and after the ‘I Do’s’!
I was asked to stay on past midnight at this one, as Victoria and Simon, after changing out of their wedding attire, were going to leave the Garden Room through a run of sparklers, and they wanted some photos of the walk out. Fortunately we managed to get some nice images, despite the sparklers being lit too early (most had gone out by the time Victoria and Simon arrived!) and despite a whole bunch of sparklers going off in someones hand just as they were walking out and causing a huge ball of light in the background of the photos! It just goes to show, you never can tell whats going to happen on the day!
I met with Victoria and Simon at one of the Palace wedding showcases and worked with them on email before the big day. The next time I saw them in person would be at the wedding, but everything was lovely and they were fun to work with. What was nice about this one was that the couple were very keen to spend a lot of time with all their guests, choosing to put priority on celebrating their marriage with family and friends (which I think is very important), rather than spend a lot of time away from them having photos done. This is where I work well because often couples specifically book me for the way I capture the ‘atmosphere’ rather than a lot of staged photos.
Moving all around the main palace made for a good change of scenery and resulted in some really atmospheric images.
’til next time….
